I think that the joy of the outdoors often eludes people. We come from a busy and noisy place where the senses are constantly overloaded with beep and buzz. I think people expect the outdoors to somehow have an energy that competes with this. For me the enjoyment of the outdoors is a quiet one. This is different from enjoying silence because the attentive outdoorsment has much to listen to. The experience comes from the dwindling of advertisements in your head. It comes from the air which is thick and cool. From the color the forest makes as it's leaves filter the sun and passes on cool tones of radiant green on even the hottest days. From the occasional sighting of wildlife that seems to thrive at such a slow pace. You get the story of time in the rocks and the weather that has eroded them. The story of the perseverence of life as it continuously grows over itself. You can seek the place where things start, and appreciate the most simple of things like drinkable water, and the company of a fire.
