Friends, maps, technical gear, and Utah - great elements to fill any long weekend. This one was a revisit to an area filled with slot canyons that we had explored 10 years ago. We chose a new canyon and headed down into it following a set of cairns. Once in the bottom we were on our own. The canyon still sees few enough visitors not to have trails and so it boils down to topos, a guidebook, frequent ropework, and a strong sense of adventure. We spend less time crawling through slots and swimming forty-degree pools and opted instead to look for a seldom visited dwelling hidden in the cliffs of the canyon. The dwelling was very eroded and other than a few cobs of corn, some old ashes, and an arrowhead we didn't find much semblance of the Anasazi's former life. It was great, however, to stand on a ledge among the ruins of a dwelling that so few have seen. This short was shot and edited with the frenetic and rambling music of early Bob Dylan in mind. Trips to Utah feel this way.
