My first video and experience riding with my home-made headcam was over Memorial Day in Durango, Colorado. I met a good friend Jerry and we rode most of the weekend. Notice in the beginnning how Jerry works it up the hill. This was a steed SOB and Jerry, who is badly in need of a replacement bike, is riding with only one gear. We give Jerry full marks for determination but wonder how many years his knees will be up to the job at this rate... Jerry is the one who, in high school, got me to sell my racing BMX and buy a mountain bike. I was a pathetic mountain biker at first. We lived in Tempe, AZ and daily rode South Mountain and other local trails (such as the old Desert Classic loop). Of course in AZ you have to wake up at 4:30 am to get a ride in before it hits 100 degrees. Jerry always could bonzai the downs but he LOVES the the ups. Me? I still long for nice banked corners on hard pack dirt with some well placed doubles.
